exercise_295x444EnhanceFitness is an ongoing, one-hour physical group exercise led by a trained and certified in fitness for older adults community health worker. The classes are held 2-3 times per week in a relaxed, fun and dynamic atmosphere. The YMCA, parks and recreation programs and others around the state offer this program which includes cardiovascular exercises, strength training, stretching and balance movements.

EnhanceFitness is the premier fitness choice for older adults. Progress will be tracked with fitness checks completed at the time of enrollment l and again at four months.

Over 99% of participants say they would recommend EnhanceFitness to a friend. The class is proven to:

  • Increase strength. People who regularly attend class grow stronger, improve their balance and become more limber.
  • Boost activity levels. Even the unfit quickly find themselves able to do the things they want to do, safely and independently.
  • Elevate mood. Research shows that exercise can help prevent depression, and EnhanceFitness participants say they feel better physically and emotionally.

Participant’s comments about EnhanceFitness:

A few years ago I began having trouble getting up from a squat. The sit-to-stand exercise has strengthened my thighs so that I can do it now without help. I have been doing 2 sets of 13 three times a week. Balance has been an issue with me. Because of the class I’m greatly improved.

It has improved my mental state, as well as physical state. I have observed over a period how members of our class have improved their movements and their stamina. The friendship and the camaraderie enjoyed by all of us has taken me from a depressed state to where I look forward to each session. . . . EnhanceFitness saved my life. If it weren’t for the class, the exercise, the instructor and all the participants of the class I don’t know where I would be right now. I am grateful and honored to be a part of this.
